The delay in the announcement of the Super
Eagles' 35-man provisional list for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil
is to enable team’s handler Stephen Keshi add more players to his list
as demand by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee.
Super Eagles Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, said NFF wanted more names on the list in case of injuries.
“The
meeting was not postponed because of disagreement from both parties.
The NFF wants Keshi to still add more players to his list in case of
injury,” Alaiya said.
Alaiya said there was no rift and the delays occurred because Coach Keshi demanded to have more time to get the right players.
“Also
the Big Boss wants to still be given ample time to get the main players
he needs for the World Cup. There is no course for alarm. The date for
the meeting will be announced by the NFF,” he said.
There
had been reports in the media of a disagreement between the NFF and
Coach Stephen Keshi, following the failure to announce the list earlier
in the week.
Sources say the disagreement arose between Keshi and the NFF non-inclusion of some players.
